What is Chiropractic?

At ZOIA Chiropractic, we see chiropractic as a science, an art, and a philosophy centred on the health of the nervous system, the body’s master control system.

Every thought, movement, and function depends on clear and uninterrupted communication through this system. When it works freely, the body can function more effectively.

We take a holistic, vitalistic approach, recognising that the body has an innate intelligence designed to keep all systems working in harmony. Chiropractors focus on identifying and addressing spinal restrictions, called subluxations.

These restrictions may affect how the nervous system communicates, and adjustments aim to restore healthy movement and balance.

Chiropractic care supports your body’s natural function and adaptability, helping you move, recover, and feel more connected to your wellbeing. For us at ZOIA, it’s not just a treatment, it’s part of a broader journey towards living with greater balance, awareness, and vitality.

A Brief History of Chiropractic

Chiropractic was founded in 1895 in the United States by Daniel David Palmer, who observed a connection between spinal health and overall wellbeing.

He developed gentle spinal adjustments to support the body’s function, establishing a profession dedicated to supporting the body’s natural ability to adapt and maintain health.

The profession arrived in the UK in the early 20th century and has grown into a regulated healthcare field with over 3,400 registered chiropractors. Today, chiropractic care is offered widely across the UK, respected for its role in musculoskeletal health and its holistic approach to wellbeing.

The Chiropractic Profession

Chiropractors are regulated healthcare professionals who undergo extensive training to assess and support spinal and nervous system function. They use specialist skills to work with movement, posture, and balance, helping people maintain their wellbeing throughout life.

At ZOIA, our care is informed by evidence, guided by a holistic philosophy, and rooted in the belief that each person has the capacity to adapt and thrive when supported in the right way.
